CIEH webinar FAQs

All our scheduled webinars can be viewed at www.cieh.org/events/webinar. Once you click on the book now button you will be taken to the Gotowebinar registration page where you will be required to enter your details in the fields listed before registering.

All our webinars have a maximum attendee limit of 3,000. Registrations are also limited to 3,000 so everyone who registers is guaranteed a place. As soon as we’ve reached 3,000 registrations, the registration page will say the webinar is full and no further registrations will be allowed.

Once you've registered you will receive an email with joining instructions. This will contain a link to join the webinar at the specified time. This link is unique to you and should not be shared with others.

The webinar will run using the GoToWebinar Instant Join App which is a browser-based version of GoToWebinar. It is recommended you use Google Chrome but please check the full list of system requirements for using the Instant Join App for other compatible browsers.

Also please ensure you check the system requirements prior to joining to avoid any connection issues.

If you have not received a registration email and have waited an appropriate amount of time and checked your junk/spam inbox, the email may have been blocked. Please speak to your IT department and ask them to unblock/add to their whitelist all emails sent from customercare@gotowebinar.com.

If you are unable to resolve the issue you can register again using a different email address, but please email us at info@cieh.org to let us know that you wish to cancel your original registration to allow someone else to join the webinar.

There is no webinar waiting list available. Once the 3,000-registration limit is reached no further registrations will be allowed, unless a registered attendee cancels their registration.

Once you have registered for a webinar please check your system can join without any issues using the Gotowebinar attendee system check.

We are aware that some users in local authorities have issues joining our webinars due to IT restrictions/company firewalls. If you have any issues please ask your IT department to add the following domains to the firewall whitelist:

Please note that you can only listen to the webinars using your computer's audio - if you experience any audio issues please check the audio setup on your computer.

If you are experiencing issues during the webinar and are unable to find a solution, please let us know using the questions box displayed on screen and we will do our best to assist.

When registering for a webinar there is a field to submit a question to the speaker/panel.

During the webinar you can ask questions by typing them into the question box that will be shown on screen (all attendees are muted throughout the webinar).

All questions submitted before and during the webinar will be reviewed before being put to the speaker/panel. Please note that due to the high volume of questions we receive we are unable to answer them all.

All our webinars are recorded. Everyone who registers for a webinar will be emailed a link to the recording after the webinar has taken place (please allow up to 24 hours).

All our webinar recordings relating to coronavirus can be found at www.cieh.org/coronavirus/webinars. Our other webinar recordings are available to members-only in the My resources section of MyCIEH.

We aim to make webinar recordings available by 5pm on the day the webinar takes place. The recordings are hosted on Gotowebinar and you will be required to enter your name and email address to view them.

Our webinar recordings are hosted on Gotowebinar. If you experience any issues viewing a recording, please try clearing your browser cache and rebooting your browser. Alternatively, please try using a different browser.

We offer 1 hour of CPD for all our webinars*. CPD certificates will be issued to all registered attendees who signed in and engaged with the entire session. These will be emailed as soon as possible after the webinar has taken place. For CIEH members, we will also add 1 hour of CPD to their MyCIEH account.

Unfortunately, due to restrictions with the webinar platform, we are unable to track those who do not view the webinar via the Gotowebinar app. This includes those who only dial in via telephone. In these cases, we are unable to automatically issue a CPD certificate. Attendees who wish to claim CPD if they dialled in can do so by following the instructions in the 'Is CPD available if I watch a recording of a CIEH webinar' tab below.

Where a team has watched the webinar together, a CPD certificate will only be issued to the registered delegate who attended the session. However, team leaders are welcome to issue their own CPD certificates to colleagues who have attended. There is guidance on this in the My Resources section of MyCIEH (Member Resources sub-section – "How to make a CPD certificate").

*Following feedback, Q&A webinars are now eligible for CPD. We will be automatically issuing CPD for all previous Q&A webinars but please bear with us as we process these retrospective hours. 

As we are unable to track those who view our webinar recordings, we are unable to issue CPD certificates.

However, during the coronavirus lockdown we are introducing temporary measures for those who watch/listen to our webinar recordings in full and wish to claim 1 hour of CPD.

To claim CPD for watching/listening to a CIEH webinar recording we ask that you:

  1. Note the date and subject of the webinar
  2. Confirm that you listened to the whole webinar
  3. Write a short reflective narrative which includes:
    1. The key points covered
    2. The points most relevant to you
    3. How you will apply it to your work
    4. Any further training needs the webinar has identified

The narrative will need to be a minimum of one or two paragraphs long. This information can then be recorded as core CPD in your CPD records on MyCIEH.
